Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2025-2027, Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous, Dec 2025

The 2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape opens with restraint, only gradually revealing forest floor, gravel and subtle spicy notes. Full-bodied and moderately concentrated, the palate is framed by chalky tannins that take away some of the wine’s elegance. Nonetheless, it is still well balanced after 20 years—a testament to the reliable winemaking at Château Mont-Redon.

The Chateau Mont Redon 2005 Châteauneuf du Pape is outstanding. A blend of 65% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 8% Mourvèdre and 2% Cinsault brought up in both older foudre and smaller barrels, it has terrific notes of kirsch, licorice, sweet spice and crushed rock. Medium-bodied, ripe and polished, with a beautiful mid-palate and everything perfectly balanced, this is a classic, elegant Châteauneuf that’s drinking beautifully today, yet will evolve nicely going forward.

Healthy, luminous ruby. Quite complex, evolved nose with broad, rich, rather wild flavours. The tannins and acidity are marked on the finish but overall this delivers a great deal of pleasure. Transparent. (JR)

Deep ruby. Smoky raspberry and cherry on the nose, with exotic cured meat and cola nuances adding complexity. Rich, fleshy red fruit liqueur flavors are framed by fine-grained tannins and an element of minerality that builds with air. Impressively sweet, silky and fresh, with a lovely raspberry quality and excellent snap.
