Note di degustazione
(70% grenache, 10% each of syrah and mourvedre and the rest cinsault, counoise, muscardin and terret noir): Deep ruby. Ripe red and dark berry aromas are complicated by subtle herb and floral nuances. A juicy, open-knit midweight that offers plump black raspberry and cherry flavors, along with a touch of anise. Closes on a gently sweet note, with very good breadth and no rough edges.

A very Provencal, pretty wine, the 2009 Domaine Font de Michelle Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a classic blend of 70% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, and 10% assorted varieties that’s aged in a combination of foudre and oak casks. Showing lovely aromas of kirsch liqueur, spice box, seaweed, licorice, and ground pepper, with hints of sappy underbrush and garrigue, the wine is medium-bodied and supple, possessing a seamless, polished texture, moderate concentration, and an overall polished, elegant character. This is very approachable now, but should continue to show well for up to a decade. Elegance and balance are the buzz words here.
Pale straw. Big and sweet and bold but very relaxed. Like a gumshoe at a holiday resort and why not? Finish fairly early 2011. (JR)
