A blend of 56% Grenache, 24% Syrah, 12% Mourvedre and the rest Cinsault and other permitted varieties, the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape is a solid, medium-bodied and classically styled effort that exhibits plenty of spice-box, cedar, kirsch and forest floor qualities on both the nose and palate. Aged in close to 60% foudre and 40% in 15% new French oak, it shows nothing but textbook Chateauneuf flair and should continue to drink nicely for a number of years.
