A beautiful wine that's just now hitting maturity, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape from Jean-Paul Daumen is still ruby colored to the rim and offers up a classic bouquet of black raspberries, black licorice, fruit cake, garrigue and roasted meats. Full-bodied and concentrated, yet with a seamless, impeccably balanced profile, it's drinking beautifully today but has another 10-15 years of overall longevity.

I reviewed the 2007 Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Châteauneuf-du-Pape in Issue #1, and this bottle was consistent with that review. One of the top successes in the vintage, this goes from strength to strength with stunning aromatics and a blockbuster palate that delivers full bodied power, yet is light, perfectly balanced and incredibly long. I’m a huge fan and this should be a long lived Châteauneuf.
85% Grenache. No stems. Aged in tank and old wood . Very, very dark crimson. Savoury. Real vibrancy and savour. Still lots of tannin. (JR)
