Punteggio 96/100 · Da bere 2025-2035, Jeb Dunnuck, Jun 2025

The 2009 Châteauneuf Du Pape from Domaine de Marcoux is heavenly stuff, and I absolutely love it. Spicy red fruits, loamy earth, pressed flowers, and subtle garrigue are just some of its nuances, and it has a medium to full-bodied palate that’s flawlessly balanced, with ultra-fine tannins and a remarkable sense of harmony and balance. It’s just brilliant, and I like it every bit as much as the Vieilles Vignes cuvée. Count yourself lucky if you have bottles in the cellar. It has another 10 to 12 years of prime drinking ahead, with a gradual decline thereafter. The blend is 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 7% Syrah, and 3% Cinsault, which was vinified in concrete tanks and aged for 18 months, mostly in concrete with a small amount in older barrels. Drink: 2025-2035.

Featuring a healthy dose of delicate herbal-floral notes, hints of black tea and copious red fruits, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape is in no danger of heading over the hill anytime soon. Full-bodied, ripe, rich and open-knit, it's easy to drink and right in the middle of its drinking window, still showing a touch of tannin on the licorice-laced finish.

Vivid ruby. Red berry preserves and potpourri on the exotically perfumed nose. Deep and intensely fruity but light on its feet, offering an array of red and dark fruit flavors lifted by peppery spices. Shows no rough edges and finishes with excellent clarity, cut and length. This wine is surprisingly approachable now.

Bright ruby. A complex, highly perfumed bouquet displays raspberry, blackberry preserves, lavender and star anise, accented by a strong mineral overtone. Pliant and alluringly sweet, offering precise red fruit flavors that gain weight and intensity with air. The finish strongly echoes the floral note and clings with excellent tenacity and focus.
