The 1999 La Fleur-Pétrus is more youthful than the 1999 Hosanna in appearance. The bouquet is decent enough, featuring soy-tinged red fruit, but overall it is missing some vigor and definition, and it certainly pales against the juxtaposed 2016. The palate is better, slightly bitter in the mouth with light rustic tannin and notes of balsamic and hoisin . There is some dryness beginning to creep in toward the finish, so I would drink this in the near future. Tasted at the offices of JP Moueix in Libourne.

Meaty, confident, long-term Pomerol. Sweet palate entry, then it reverberates and flirts a bit. Definitely not full. Maybe a bit too fragile for a higher score. (JR)
This 1999 is performing well, with more power and depth after bottling than before. It exhibits a dense ruby color as well as a sweet nose of pure black cherry jam intermixed with hints of raspberry, new wood, and earth. It is surprisingly powerful for a 1999, with admirable ripeness, sweet tannin, and low acidity. Two to three years of cellaring is warranted. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2015.
Fresh and bright aromas of crushed berries and minerals. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a fresh, fruity aftertaste. Best after 2003. 4,165 cases made. James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2002
