The 1981 La Fleur-Pétrus is a wine I have only tasted a few times. It has a modest but refined nose with fleeting brambly black fruit notes laced with ash and singed leather. It's not especially fruit-driven as you would anticipate, given the growing season. The palate is underpinned by a fine bead of acidity threaded through the herbaceous red fruit with a dab of salinity on the finish. The 1981 is decent for the vintage, albeit not long-term. Château La Fleur-Pétrus was the first acquisition of many in Pomerol by Jean Pierre Moueix, who went on to own Château Trotanoy, Château Hosanna and most notably Pétrus. Jean Pierre Moueix was born in Corèzze in moved to Saint-Émilion with his parent in 1929 following the Great Depression.
