Straw-coloured. Wood/toast-driven (but it is Krug, after all) – more accentuated over time. Baked bread and croissant on the nose, a touch of vanillin on the palate. Certainly hugely complex, with acidity close to that of the 1996 Krug. Just a little disjointed on the finish? (AWH)

ID 105095. Disgorged winter 2004-05. 48% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay, 17% Pinot Meunier. Known as ‘harmonious, generous and serene’. A mild winter, serious frosts and extreme heat. Tasted blind. Pale apricot colour. Very appealing caramel nose. Most intriguing and complex on the nose. Beautiful. Much less severe than some with real depth and savour and some green vegetal notes. Great balance. Very tense. Dry but not drying end. (JR)
Deep, rich, pale copper colour. Masses of evolution on the nose. Rich, even quite toasty. Broad yet still fresh with the slightest hint of cheesiness. Pretty dramatic and fine in a distinctly big-boned way. (JR)
Pale straw. Rather languid bead. Firm, almost vegetal nose with judt a hint of lemon cream. Dense and tight knit. Uncompromisngly dry and still pretty tight. Very long. It's all on the finish, like some great white burgundies. Wonderfully long. But I would still ideally wait for this to unwind further. It is slowly opening out from the tense state in which it was released... (JR)

Krug is a remarkable Champagne House which only makes prestige cuvées. The wines – with their distinctive rich, complex, oxidative style – are some of the region’s best.
