'Experienced'-looking bottle whose straw-gold contents didn't have that much fizz and began with a distinctly low-key but somehow 'burnished' nose. It opened out however to display admirable freshness but the fruit definitely had no further to go. (JR)

Not yet in its second life. Hasn't evolved enough to be in the Collection phase. Much paler and greener. Lovely sweet brioche nose. Very, very dense and tight and lively. Dom Pérignon-like. Creamy, fine, dense: lots of energy. Very, very tight. In between, long, tense, vibration. Very, very long (I could definitely see a relationship with the ‘64). Quite big and ripe. (JR)
A deep, slightly pinky, biscuity colour. Very very fine bead. Very old savoury nose with a definite hint of oxidation, but on the palate there was still lots of youthful acidity and subtle development. Surely this will go on for ages. Slightly astringent end. (JR)
No tasting note. Dec 1994, www.robertparker.com

Krug is a remarkable Champagne House which only makes prestige cuvées. The wines – with their distinctive rich, complex, oxidative style – are some of the region’s best.
