2000 Jean Laurent Blanc de Blancs

Laurent’s 2000 Brut Blanc de Blancs isn’t quite as big or tropical as the 2002, but it also doesn’t have that wine’s personality. This is a mid-weight vintage for the Blanc de Blancs, with good complexity, but not a ton of structure. Ash, smoke, nectarines and flowers emerge from the glass. My impression is that the 2000 is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015. ||Jean Laurent’s Champagnes are rich, vinous wines that need to be opened in advance. In my experience, they are best served with food rather than on their own. I tend to prefer the Blanc de Noirs over the Blanc de Blancs at all levels across the range. eRobertParker.com.November, 2012
