Punteggio 87/100 · Da bere 2020-2030, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Mar 2020

Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Haut-Marbuzet offers notions of sweaty leather, pencil lead and sautéed herbs with a core of baked blackberries and warm cassis plus a medicinal waft. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has mouth-coating black fruit preserves with loads of earthy/savory nuances and a chewy texture, finishing with lovely freshness.

Tasted blind. Deep smudgy garnet. Slightly meaty/undergrowth nose but still lots of dark fruit. Seems to get more meaty with air, which makes me wonder if there is some brett here. A little bit of dried fruit on the palate but it’s pretty tough. Shame because the fruit seemed quite promising at first. Hence the shorter drink dates. (JH)

Broad, opulent nose with a suggestion of oak. Neat and well balanced. Very typical of 2010 with its just-ripe fruit and very firm tannin. Hint of alcohol on the end. Drying finish. (JR)

Punteggio 92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jul 2013

Good bright ruby-red. Sexy, wild aromas of black raspberry, leather, game and black olive. The palate offers a lovely balance of sweetness and energy, albeit with a distinct rusticity to the flavors of raspberry, olive and herbs. This plush, sweet yet lively wine is distinctly old school, but I reveled in its muskiness. Those who fear funkiness in their clarets will find my score too high.
