The 2008 Haut Marbuzet has a generous, expressive red cherry and strawberry coulis scented bouquet with hints of kirsch and desiccated orange peel. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannin. This feels succulent and harmonious, a seam of spice that surfaces towards the second half, allied with pencil lead and white pepper. There is quite a lot going on here and I can see this ageing with style. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 10-Year On tasting.

Looks quite evolved. Perfumed and sweet with lots of chew on the end. Very tart finish. Tannins too much for the fruit. (JR)
