Back in the late 1980s, Robert Parker himself deemed the Château Haut-Marbuzet 1975 as outstanding. Twenty-five years later, it remains a very delicious and commendable Saint Estèphe, even if I suspect it peaked around the millennium. This bottle (of impeccable provenance) has an autumnal nose with what I can only describe as "languid" red berries that are soon usurped by cigar box and black truffle scents, which impart Pomerol-like allure. The palate is medium-bodied, soft and mellow, certainly with respectable depth and a touch of orange sorbet lining the finish. Its peak is probably behind it now, but it is definitely one of the better wines from the Left Bank in this vintage. Tasted June 2014.
