Plenty of sweet spice from the oak. But dilute and bitter on the finish, even if the tannins are rounded. (JH)
A brilliant innovation by the proprietor Cos d’Estournel, Michel Reybier, this offering has been a delicious, fruit-forward, interesting Medoc in every vintage to date. The 2011 Goulee has triumphed over the vintage difficulties, resulting in a dark ruby-colored wine with lots of black cherry, black currant, licorice, spice and damp earth notes. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.
