Punteggio 16/20 · Jancis Robinson MW, May 2006

Bright crimson, quite dark in the middle. Distinctly green, underripe notes on the nose. At first I found this note intrusive but after tasting the first six wines it seems rather refreshingly novel. Mellifluous palate entry but the dryness is after all just too much. Is this the LLC 1971? Very different from the rest, obviously the product of less sunshine. Lots of extract but not that much alcohol. Very straightforward, classic bordeaux of traditional style. Solid. Not heart-stopping but very solid. Very dry, rather drying tannins but no shortage of fruit weight on the palate. fresh finish. Bordeaux. (JR)

Punteggio 73/100 · Da bere 1990, Robert Parker, Jan 1998

The 1971 is an unbalanced Leoville-Las Cases, exhibiting too much tannin, a loosely knit structure, and fruity flavors that seem to dissipate rapidly in the glass. It is an austere, unyielding wine in which the tannin clearly has the edge over the fruit. Nevertheless, there is interest in the bouquet, and the color remains sound. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 10/90.
