Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2019-2032, Neal Martin, Sep 2019

The 1989 Langoa Barton has lasted very well on the nose (better than the 1990). It displays complex, well-delineated aromas of black fruit, melted tar, cedar and touches of mint. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin. This is very youthful for a 30-year-old Langoa, and very cohesive, offering tarry black fruit laced with black pepper and a touch of clove. There is a lot of charm here, and it will offer another 15 years of pleasure. Excellent. Tasted from an ex-cellar bottle at the château .

Bricky garnet with paler rim. Rich, open nose – coffee, forest floor and a hint of curry spice but miraculously still some blackcurrant fruit. Rich and smooth and velvety. So full of fruit and depth and life. Tannins are fully resolved but still giving shape and surprising freshness. Lots of pleasure. After an hour, extreme aromas of coffee and digestive biscuit but retains a fine freshness to the very end. (JH)

Very, very sensuous. Looks much older than the Léoville 1989. A ripe, almost brûlée nose. Sweet and round. Dry end. The ripest example of Langoa Barton or Léoville Barton. Long and sumptuous. (JR)
