Tremblay's 2010 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has now decisively overtaken the 2009. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of plums, licorice, exotic spices, rose petals, raw cocoa, forest floor and a discreet framing of new oak, it's full-bodied, layered and complete, with a deep core of fruit, lively acids and a concentrated, elegantly muscular profile. This is beginning to become approachable, but it still has considerable potential to improve with further bottle age.

The 2010 Chapelle-Chambertin bursts from the glass with sweet dark cherries, violets, licorice and spices. It boasts gorgeous delineation and a totally weightless, translucent personality that only red Burgundy (and possibly Nebbiolo) is capable of. A final burst of mineral-drenched red fruits stains the palate on the vibrant finish. The Chapelle is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine.
(from 90-year-old vines; 50% new oak; Tremblay uses Troncais oak for this and the Beaumonts, as she likes the vanilla quality it adds to these cuvees ): Good fresh ruby-red. Complex nose blends black cherry, blueberry, licorice, spices and bitter chocolate; slightly liqueur-like. Then lush, broad and sweet; really quite voluptuous and velvety, with the chocolatey character following through on the palate. Fine-grained tannins will not get in the way of enjoying this layered, deep wine within four or five years after bottling, but it has the stuffing and supporting minerality for a long life in bottle. These vines were picked on September 23.
Very rich and sweet and quite concentrated on the nose. Heady stuff. Rich, almost Clos de Tart-like concentration. Very sweet finish. Drama rather than purity but surely many will love this. Dry finish. Exotic, almost pruney. Hint of treacle. Long. Attention grabbing. (JR)
