The 2009 Chapelle-Chambertin floats across the palate with delicate red berries, flowers and sweet spices. Highly expressive, perfumed aromatics are woven throughout, while silky tannins convey an impression of pure sensuality. I especially like the way the Chapelle freshens up in the glass, always a good sign for the future. Of the 2009s I tasted from bottle, the Chapelle is the one wine that appears a bit reticent today.

Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. Pierre Damoy’s 2009s have turned out magnificently. Damoy remains one of my favorite under-the-radar growers. Importer: Peter Weygandt, Unionville, PA; tel. Very dark crimson. Strong, intense, dried cherry flavours (cherry is a theme here!) Luscious fruit – maybe not that intense or earthy but delivering lots of pleasure. Slightly drying finish but a sincere wine. (JR)
