A consistent over-achiever, Larmande's 1988 is thrilling. Black/ruby/purple in color, with a super bouquet of plums, minerals, and spicy new oak, this rich, highly extracted, lusciously put together St.-Emilion has gorgeous extract levels. Deep, full-bodied, impeccably pure, and well-balanced, it should drink well for the next 10-15 years. Anticipated maturity: Now-2002.

One of the vintage's more hedonistic wines, Larmande's 1988 was delicious young, yet continues to mature evenly and impressively. The wine remains a dark purple color with only slight lightening at the edge. It offers an intense aromatic profile, with gobs of licorice, mineral, blackberry and cherry fruit scents. Similar notes, in addition to a subtle tobacco weediness, can be detected on the palate of this full-bodied, rich, pure, spicy, smoky-styled wine. Anticipated maturity: Now-2004.
