The 2010 Château Jean Faure is beautiful and has a complex, nuanced style in its spicy dark fruits, spring flowers, tobacco, and sandalwood-like aromas and flavors. With medium to full-bodied richness, it has a layered, silky mouthfeel, resolved tannins, and outstanding length. It's beautifully done and drinking at point today, yet I see no reason it shouldn't continue evolving for another decade or so. Based on 50% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot, and 5% Malbec, it was aged in 40% new barriques and demi-muids, 40% once-used barriques, and 20% once-used foudres for 18 months. Drink 2025-2035.

The 2010 Jean Faure is frankly in a different league than the 2009. There is more freshness and vitality on the nose, which features blackberry, raspberry, cedar and light peppermint scents that unfold with just a few swirls of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, well-judged acidity and fine grip. There is commendable backbone to this Jean Faure, and discreet touches of dark chocolate linger on the finish. Well worth hunting down.
An interesting blend of 50% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot, and 5% Malbec, this is an elegant 2010, with notes of black currant, blackberry, espresso, and vanilla. The wine is soft, round, medium-weight and best drunk over the next 7-8 years.
Bought by Olivier Decelle in 2004 (Mas Amiel). Next to Cheval Banc but needed recuperation. 50% Cabernet Franc. Very sweet start with fine delineation and with very much its own character. Terroir speaks more than oenologist. Subtle and very fresh but not forced. Lots there. A second note reads: Light and fresh. Very much unforced sweet and racy wine. Transparent and with apparently less tannin than most Derenoncourt 2010s. (JR)
