The 1984 Chambertin Grand Cru was one of the surprise packages of the decade. Light bergamot and red cherries on the nose with a suggestion of Earl Grey, it is much fresher than expected with no sign of greenness. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and balanced, quite elegant with a "loose" finish that just lacks a bit of depth. Nevertheless, this is very respectable for the vintage. Tasted at the Rousseau Chambertin vertical at La Vienne.
