The 2009 Coutet has a more muted nose than previous bottles, although it just needs aeration, revealing dried honey, white peach and light tangerine. White flower hints emerge with time. The palate is very well balanced with much more precision than previous vintages and more intensity with a tensile finish that lingers. This was the best Coutet firing on all cylinders and is highly recommended. Tasted from an ex-château bottle served at the estate.

The 2009 Coutet feels a little simple on the nose compared to its peers, plenty of tropical fruit here such as mango and passion fruit but I would like more terroir expression. The palate is well balanced with an unctuous texture with fine acidity. This is not dissimilar to the 2009 Doisy-Daëne whereby there is much more quality in the mouth than on the nose, finishing with a detailed, stem ginger and pineapple tinged finish that is very appealing. Pale to medium gold colored, the 2009 Coutet leaps from the glass with warm apple pie, dried mango, fresh straw, lemongrass, ginger and crème caramel notes. The rich, concentrated, unctuous flavors are lifted by amazing freshness, finishing epically long, layered and with a tantalizing nuttiness.
Tasted blind. Deep gold. Very big and massive and yet fresh, with enormous weight but tension too. Almost hot! Dense. (JR)

Classified as a First Growth in 1855, this Barsac property has a history stretching back to the 14th century. Today it has 38.5 hectares of vineyard, producing brilliant sweet wines cut by taut acidity. In certain years, it produces Cuvée Madame, pure botrytised Semillon from its oldest vines.
