Good deep red. Aromas of redcurrant, mint, truffle, bacon fat, and spicy, smoky oak; faint suggestion of exotic fruits. Fat, sweet and mouthfilling, with a bracing minty component and strong oakiness. The richest and longest of the Lamarche '98s. Solidly structured for aging. I visited Lamarche in November for the first time in several years, but the '99s had been racked and sulfured 10 days earlier and these wines were impossible to assess with confidence.
