Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2018-2035, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Apr 2015

The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles Saint-Jacques comes from the family's parcel on the other side of the wall from Clos Saint Jacques that was planted in 1981. This has a more mineral-driven bouquet here than the Aux Etelois–red cherry fruit, cranberry and a dash of white pepper. It is reserved, but very well focused and sure to open up in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied, tensile, minerally, nicely poised with a sense of transparency coming through on the shimmering finish. Give this 3 or 4 years in bottle and you'll have a divine Gevrey on your hands.

The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Estournelles-Saint-Jacques wraps around the palate with good depth and resonance. Sweet red cherries, plums, flowers and spices open up in the glass. Over time, the Estournelles turns a bit more delicate and fleeting. Dried roses, mint and cinnamon linger on the silky finish.

In the same fashion as the Lavaut there is enough wood to notice on the relatively deeply pitched and slightly riper nose that features a mix of dark berry aromas and plenty of sauvage character. The mouth feel of the detailed middle weight flavors is a bit more refined thanks to the fine-grained tannins that impart a tenderness to the mildly austere, well-balanced and solidly persistent finish.
