Ex-chateau bottle tasted blind in Sauternes. The Bastor-Lamontagne ‘03 has a lifted, well-defined bouquet of honey, quince, Seville orange and a touch of spice that is relatively complex and sophisticated for the vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with a dash of white pepper on the opening and plenty of rich botrytized fruit that lend the finish complexity and tension. This is much better than the sample I tasted out of barrel and represents a commendable Sauternes for the vintage. Drink now-2018. Tasted April 2013.
Quite simple, very sweet and slightly sugary. But soft acidity and a good spine for early drinking. (JR)
Rich gold. Slightly simple nose, overwhelmed by straightforward sweetness. Streak of green, vegetal notes on something very round and pretty sweet. Another relatively early-maturing wine without the depth of some. (JR)

This Sauternes estate was acquired by the Cathiard family of Ch. Smith Haut Lafitte in 2014. Located not too far from Ch. Suduiraut, the property has 52 hectares of vines in a single block.
