A concentrated, tightly-wound wine, the medium to dark-ruby-colored 2000 Richebourg has a dark berry-laden nose. Powerful and dense, it is highly structured, crammed with black berries, and deep. This firm, backward, medium-bodied offering has loads of edgy tannin that are, at present, dominated by its impressive fruit. Projected maturity: 2005-2012. Concerning the 2000s, Grivot said it was “a superb vintage, one of my finest. The grapes had great ripeness, with sufficient freshness. Incredibly rich and lavish in its forward, generous yet intense fruit with powerful flavors underpinned by dusty tannins and a superbly long finish. Structured, vibrant and pungent. This is really quite dense for the vintage though it should drink well after a decade or so of bottle age. An incredible success for the vintage.
