A spicy, pure and beautifully layered nose that while fully mature, still displays a certain freshness with ample sous bois, anise, clove and a certain animale note that can also be found on the rich and still moderately structured big-bodied flavors that are delicious, complex and long with an attractive touch of backend minerality. This is really quite a lovely effort that is drinking perfectly now. Tasted twice in the last few years though the first bottle was truly bizarre.
Bernard Gros makes an interesting wine that is usually very sweet and perfumed, smelling almost too much of cherry and cassis. The Richebourg tastes highly chaptalized. It is quite sweet, but the level of fruit extract in the wine is amazing. The cherry and cassis flavors are remarkably vivid, as is the concentration of the wine.
