Da bere 0-0, Neal Martin, Aug 2021

The 1979 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a funky nose, mushroomy and rustic, not as fresh as I believe a perfect bottle would be. It has a slightly Porty entry, sweet and candied, with kirsch and orange peel leading to a tarry finish. I doubt this bottle is correct. Quel dommage . Tasted at Noizé restaurant in London.

This particular bottle of 1979 Clos-de-Beze showed some turbidity in the glass. The nose was disturbed by just a touch of TCA but underneath lay attractive aromas of brown sugar, leather and autumn leaves. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasing citric thread that runs through the rather rustic structure. Bucolic from start to finish, this is a rough and ready Rousseau compared to today’s elixir, and for sure it cuts away prematurely. However, it offers its own rustic charm. I suspect there might be better bottles out there. Tasted September 2013.
