Punteggio 96/100 · Da bere 2024-2042, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2015

A wine of pure texture, Pierre Damoy's Chambertin-Clos de Bèze is gorgeous in 2012. Classic dark blue and purplish Bèze notes flesh out on the mid palate, with floral and spice overtones that add nuance. Silky and creamy through to the finish, the 2012 possesses notable power, intensity and resonance, all qualities that will allow it to age gracefully for many years to come. In the meantime, readers should forget about the 2012 for the better part of the next decade.

Smoke, tar and licorice are some of the many notes that emerge from the explosive, full-bodied 2012 Chambertin Clos de Bèze. Rich and voluptuous to the core, the 2012 is endowed with stunning depth and striking purity in its blue and black fruit. Today, the Bèze is more expressive than the Chambertin, especially in its perfume. It will be interesting to see how both wines show next year from bottle. Today, the Damoy Bèze dazzles, especially on the finish, where intense, saline minerality adds energy and vibrancy.

A background touch of wood serves as a backdrop to the exuberantly spicy dark berry fruit, earth and soft floral nuances. There is good concentration to the powerful and mineral-driven broad-shouldered flavors that possess an abundance of palate coating dry extract that also buffers the very firm tannic spine on the balanced and strikingly persistent finish. This should be great in time but patience will definitely be required. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2027+
