Punteggio 86/100 · Da bere 2020-2024, Neal Martin, Jun 2020
The 2003 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a ripe and generous bouquet, more fruité than the Chapelle-Chambertin, but it smells more of a Mediterranean red than one from Burgundy. The palate is medium-bodied with low acidity and smudged red berry fruit laced with sage and leather, leading to a rather monotone finish. Tasted at Sarah Marsh’s 2003/2004 tasting in London.

Mid heavily shaded ruby. Almost medicinal – sweet and spicy. Juicy and rich with lots of pleasure. There is spine and structure here and not too much residual sugar. Notable acidity even, but it’s well integrated. Well done. And with many layers of subtlety underneath. (JR)
