The 2000 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru has matured very well in bottle over the last 18 years with perfumed redcurrant and wild strawberry fruit, orange blossom, minerals and just a hint of sage. It is one of the best aromatics that I have encountered from this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well judged acidity, nicely integrated oak with good substance and persistence towards the tender, slightly saline finish. In a different league to Damoy's Chapelle-Chambertin. Tasted at Sarah Marsh’s 2000 and 2001 horizontal tasting.

Pierre Damoy's 2000 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is aging nicely, offering up a classic bouquet of ripe black fruit, smoked meats, rich soil and licorice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, multidimensional and quite rich for the vintage, with a good core of fruit, savory tannins and creditable length. A more than respectable performance in a challenging vintage from the Clos de Bèze's largest landholder.
Mid ruby with a rust rim. Light nose with a suggestion of decay on it. Again, pretty tart on the finish. Ungenerous. This was the last wine in the tasting but was not a grand finale, alas. A bit pinched. (JR)
