Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2022-2040, Neal Martin, Apr 2020

The 2010 Villemaurine is another Saint-Émilion with an extremely ripe and extrovert bouquet, yet still attractive with maraschino cherries, allspice, cloves and hung game. The palate is sweet on the entry, supple and well balanced. I like the acidity here that counterbalances the inherent richness of this wine, corpulent towards the finish. Drinking perfectly now. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.

Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Villemaurine is a little mute to begin, opening out to reveal notes of baked blackberries, plum preserves and Chinese five spice with hints of potpourri and dried leaves plus a waft of iron ore. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is generously fruited, with firm, ripe, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and perfumed.

Tasted blind. Deep browning garnet. Lifted, fragrant and still showing red fruits and a vanilla sweetness. Sweet and mature on the palate. Chalky texture at the end but still in balance, the tannins slimmed down. Rather pinched on the finish. (JH)

Intense, already well-knit nose. Quite precocious aromatically and then with lots of solid chewy tannin on the palate. Finishes just a little suddenly. (JR)
