Note di degustazione
(100% destemmed; this was Thibault Liger-Belair's first vintage and he did more extraction then): Healthy dark red. Musky aromas of red berries, olive tapenade, leather and mint; very fresh and not at all mushroomy. Rich, fat, densely packed and smooth; this can't match today's wines here for finesse or delineation but it boasts terrific concentration even if it's quite vibrant and young, even a bit stunted. The slightly tough, medicinal tannins still need time to harmonize with the wine's fruit. Finishes with hints of leather and herbs. A distinctly powerful style of Les Saint-Georges.

Thibault Ligier-Belair has a large, 2.1 hectare (5.19 acres), parcel of 50-60 year-old vines Nuits’s most famous vineyard. Harvested at 32 hectoliters per hectare, the medium to dark ruby-colored 2002 Nuits-St.-Georges Les St.-Georges sports a big, plummy nose of black cherries and spices. Medium to full-bodied, it offers a broad personality redolent with tar-laced blackberries and cherries. Gorgeously ripe and deep, this impressive wine reveals a prolonged, suave, sweet tannin-filled finish. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2016. Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel. (205) 980-8802
Very concentrated with real depth and then fabulous sweetness. Really quite exciting. Again, fine tannins. A true throat-warmer. Savoury finish. Very persistent. (JR)
