Punteggio 93-95/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2014

Bright dark red. Complex, high-toned aromas of crushed cherry, crushed stone and cardamom lifted by flowers. Superconcentrated and aromatic in the mouth, delivering a sappy density but no impression of weight to the cherry and spice flavors. Wonderful clarity and lift here, and very long and subtle on the suave finish.

There is noticeable wood that fights just a bit with the otherwise fresh and attractively layered high-toned red berry fruit aromas that enjoy added breadth in the form of pungent earth, spice and lovely floral hints. There is a relatively refined mouth feel thanks to the fine-grained tannins that shape the middle weight flavors, all wrapped in a delicious and solidly lingering finish. The wood resurfaces on the finale but the concentration is such that this should have no difficulty absorbing it in time. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2024+
