Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2021-2032, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Jul 2021

Olive tapenade, truffles, a sweet strawberry attack that opens to maple syrup, fig, saffron, smoked fennel and gentle white pepper spice. At 16 years on this shows fully ripe fruit that has softened and opened but is still giving pleasure, with plenty of juice running through the tannins. The heat and drought of 2003 makes it signpost vintage, in that it can tell you a lot about the terroir of an estate, and here you see the full benefits of limestone maintaining uplift. It's definitely ready to drink, but feels welcoming rather than tired. 28hl/h yield. 50% new oak, 3.59ph, harvest September 9 to 16.

Punteggio 87/100 · Da bere 2017-2023, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Mar 2017

Tasted at the Château Canon vertical, the 2003 Canon has a tough act to follow in the form of the spellbinding 2005, and consequently the nose feels a little flat and fatigued. There is nothing offensive or indeed poor about the aromatics, it is just that they do not have the chutzpah, the animation of other vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of leather on the entry, plenty of soft red fruit but it lacks the framework, the structure to support it. There is still easy-drinking pleasure to be found on the 2003, but it is clearly hampered by that warm summer. Tasted October 2015.

Mild ruby.  Light, fully developed nose.  Juicy sweet fruit.  Much more forward than most six-year-old such wines would be, with a good core of juicy fruit.   Serve this one soon!  (JR)
