Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux
Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2021-2040, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Jul 2021

Begining to soften in colour around the edges, turning rose-pink and brick. On the aromatics you get brushed leather, walnut, dried roses and earth. Acidity higher than you find in most classified Left Banks at this stage, a feature of these limestone soils. Supple tannins, finessed and fine, masking at first the power that is still very much in play from the mid palate onwards. Gorgeously juicy raspberry puree and blackberry fruits intensify as it opens up and this is a wine to fully savour. Ready to drink now but no need to rush, it will stay on the plateau for another decade. 55% new oak. 34hl/h yield, 3.73ph, harvest September 23 to 30.

This elegant St.-Emilion has filled out nicely over the last decade. From barrel and post-bottling, I thought it might turn out austere, but that does not appear to be the case. It offers a deep ruby/purple color as well as copious aromas of black cherries, crushed rocks, and earthy undertones. While not a blockbuster, it is beautifully balanced and pure, revealing slightly more depth and richness than I expected. Drink it now and over the next 10-15 years.

Punteggio 87-88/100 · Da bere 2001-2011, Robert Parker, Apr 2001

This is the finest effort yet from this property, owned by Patrick Leon, who has done so much work at Mouton-Rothschild and Napa Valley's Opus One. The 2000 Les Trois-Canon displays good richness, a sweet, mineral-infused, cherry and black currant-scented nose, medium body, admirable tannin, and a clean, pure finish. It should drink well for a decade.
