Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2020-2030, Jeb Dunnuck, Nov 2020

I continue to love the 2009 Domaine De L'A, which is always a hidden gem in just about every vintage. Coming from the home estate of oenelogue Stéphane Derenoncourt and based on 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, it's fully mature and offers a beautiful bouquet of blackcurrants, chocolate, dried earth, tobacco, and cedary spice. Rich and medium to full-bodied, with ripe, sweet tannins and a great finish, it's a beautifully complex, nuanced, yet still pleasure-bent Castillon to enjoy over the coming decade.

Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2018-2023, Neal Martin, Jul 2018

The 2009 Domaine de l’A, the last vintage blended with Cabernet Sauvignon (5%), has a refined and detailed bouquet that is impressive given how much ripeness and concentration the growing season bestowed. I appreciate the purity of the fruit here, with sensual blueberry and blackberry fruit tinged with violet. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded tannin, moderate acidity with a sweet core of black and blue fruit, offset by a dash of allspice and black pepper towards the finish. This is a very well crafted wine from Stéphane Derenoncourt. Tasted at Berry Brothers & Rudd vertical with Stéphane Derenoncourt.

Bright red-ruby. Slightly high-toned aromas of blueberry, spices, truffle and chocolatey oak. Dense, sweet and creamy, with very ripe cassis and black cherry flavors framed by moderate acidity. Finishes with slightly dusty, chewy tannins and very good length. Very 2009 in style.
