Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2015-2025, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Mar 2016

One of the more youthful and fresh wines in the vintage today is the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Marie Beurrier. Sporting a healthy ruby, mostly opaque color, it offers fabulous notes of Provencal herbs, spice, white pepper, kirsch and assorted Grenache-dominated fruit characteristics in a medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, rich and lengthy profile. There's still a fair kick of tannin here, but it has a core of sweet fruit and is a joy to drink. It will easily drink well for another decade.

Raspberry and cherry on the nose, with a complicating note of licorice. Showing more depth and power but a tad less finesse than last year, with dusty tannins adding grip. Finishes on a brighter red fruit note, with very good lift and precision.

Vivid ruby. Floral-tinged aromas of raspberry and cherry show very good intensity and focus. Intense red fruit and floral pastille flavors show a restrained sweetness and become spicier with air. The sweetness carries through a smooth, seamless and fruit-driven finish distinguished by fine-grained tannins and a touch of anise.

Deep ruby-red. Exotically perfumed scents of raspberry preserves, Asian spices, lavender and smoky herbs. Sappy, focused and sweet, offering intense red and dark berry flavors lifted by slow-mounting acidity. Rich and fresh, finishing with strong cut and spicy, smoky persistence. Aeration brings up some fine-grained tannins but the fruit plows right through them. Interestingly, this wine is still in cask while the 2006 Celestins has been bottled.

This very old-school property makes the most unique Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wines are fantastically complex and Boneauu made it as it would have been produced 100 years ago in the commune, using methods that familiar to any of the 11 generations of vignerons in his family who preceded him.
