Punteggio 88/100 · Wine Spectator

Lichine is on a roll. Better than when tasted from barrel earlier this year, this is full-bodied, with wonderful floral and toasted oak aromas, chewy tannins and a long, fruit- and oak-accented finish. A really fine wine. Better in 2000. 20,475 cases made.Wine Spectator 1997

Neither of the two bottled vintages reviewed below appears to have retained much of the charm, elegance, and fruit it displayed from cask. This wine has declined since I first tasted it in March, 1995. Subsequent tastings that year and in 1996 suggested the wine was quickly losing its fruit. Now that it is in the bottle, the 1994 Prieure-Lichine tastes hard and lean, with an unusual sour, poorly cured oak barrel smell that overwhelms the wine's meager fruit. Tannin and acidity, the primary structural elements, dominate what remains. This is a dubious effort. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2006. Feb 1997, www.robertparker.com
