A light apricot and peach nose has a hint of spice too. The acidity is a touch lacking leaving quite a dense wine on the palate with lots of bitter marmalade, not much length.

The 2010 Filhot is rather anonymous on the nose, either very closed down at this stage or just missing some vigour. The palate is balanced with modest levels of acidity with a pleasing fatness on the finish. Quite Barsac-like in style, this is a very fine Filhot, one of the best in recent years. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.
Pale to medium lemon-gold in color, the 2010 Filhot is full-on gregarious with expressive notions of pineapple tart, mango pudding and musk perfume plus an undercurrent of key lime pie and candied ginger. Rich, full and marvelously layered, it has a racy backbone and beautifully textured, spicy finish.
Tasted blind. Woody, almond-paste nose. Very cedary. Sour freshness is lovely. There’s tension and intensity but it’s a bit too woody for my taste. The citrus helps offset that flavour. (JH)
