The 2009 Filhot shows a little reduction on the nose that I am unable to shake off. Fortunately the palate is better with a viscous opening, moderate weight with marmalade, quince and brown spices towards the composed finish. Whilst not a great Sauternes in the context of the vintage, it is clean and pure and offers plenty of drinking pleasure. Tasted at the vertical tasting at Château Filhot.

The 2009 Filhot is tightly wound on the nose with beeswax infusing the honeyed fruit, hints of orange pith and lime. The palate is pure and viscous on the entry, notes of quince and marmalade with good acidity and definition towards the spicy finish. Very fine. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.
The pale gold colored 2009 Filhot bursts from the glass with notions of baked pineapple and spicy apple pie, honey nut, crème caramel and candied ginger. The palate reveals beautiful harmony, offering a relatively elegant style with great freshness and vibrancy, finishing with fantastic length.
Tasted blind. Deep brassy colour. Floral and pretty with real grip and length. Zingy and zesty with leathery tannins. (JR)
