The 2003 Filhot has a simple bouquet with scents of lemon curd, almond and a touch of gingerbread, certainly better than previous bottles that I have encountered. The palate is balanced with good acidity, notes of marmalade, quince and honey with satisfying weight on the finish. Like the 2001 Filhot at the same tasting, this is the best bottle I have encountered and it should offer another decade of drinking pleasure. Tasted at the vertical tasting at Château Filhot.

Healthy pale yellow-gold. Slightly subdued nose hints at lemon and a lightly fusel quality. Very sweet but a bit aggressive and hard to warm to. Possesses strong fruit but comes across as slightly bitter with alcohol, with a hint of licorice.
Pale medium yellow. Nuanced nose combines peach, citrus peel and grapefruit, along with an exotic suggestion of mango and cooler clove and licorice notes. Nicely concentrated if a bit aggressive with alcohol. flavors of overripe fruit salad. Finishes slightly phenolic. Gives the impression of very late-picked fruit.
Deep gold. Medium intensity of rich green fruit flavours with no shortage of sweetness. Some floral notes, a pretty, neat wine without being a standout. Quite compact. Perhaps it could have been bolder? A little astringence on the finish. (JR)
