The 2012 Barde-Haut has a much fresher nose than its peers with well-defined blackberry and raspberry fruit mixed with cedar and violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and fine acidity; it's taut and fresh with admirable structure on the almost Left Bank styled finish. A good, solid Saint-Émilion here. The 2012 Barde-Haut offers black plum, hoisin, rusty piping and earthy scents on the nose. This has more delineation and focus compared to 2011. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, irony black fruit, peppery with a bit of fieriness towards the clove-tinged finish. This has an edge over the previous vintage. Tasted at the Barde-Haut vertical at the château.
Tasted blind. Healthy, deep garnet. Interesting dried herbs on the nose. Quite a bit of concentration but sharp acidity and quite marked tannins. A bit exaggerated but I hope it’s still got something to give. (JR)
Lots of chocolate, mocha, darker fruits, and dried herb-like notes emerge from the 2012 Château Barde-Haut, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated 2012. It's showing a touch of maturity yet still has plenty of tannins and structure, good mid-palate depth, and outstanding length. I continue to think 2012 was a great vintage for the Right Bank, and this certainly doesn't change my mind.
