The 2008 Barde-Haut has an attractive bouquet with pure black cherry, wild strawberry, lavender and violet scents, the floral component heightened compared to 2007. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy, succulent tannins. Quite saline and peppery, although it needs a little more tension on the finish that shows just a little dryness. Tasted at the Barde-Haut vertical at the château.

Showing even better today than at a 10-year retrospective in 2018, the 2008 Château Barde-Haut is a full-bodied, ripe, beautifully textured 2008 offering loads of chocolatey dark fruits, lead pencil shavings, tobacco, and obvious minerality in both its aromas and flavors. Impeccably balanced, with fine tannins and a great finish, it's another wine from this team that can be drunk with loads of pleasure today or cellared for another decade or more.
Attractive liquorice and baked black fruits with lovely fresh earth aromas too. Dry but not painfully so, with a sweetness from oak contact. Serious leathery notes to finish that give good persistence. Every inch the classic claret, with resolved tannic structure that is very drinkable now. (RH)
