The 2006 Barde-Haut has a little more clarity and focus than 2005. It's fragrant and nicely focused, though not complex. Tarry black fruit emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a little chewy with quite sharp acidity, not long but there is freshness towards the rustic, ferrous finish. Commendable for a 2006, and holding up well in the glass, though to drink soon. Tasted at the Barde-Haut vertical at the château.

The 2006 Château Barde-Haut also showed well and has outstanding notes of dried herbs, spice box, chocolaty dark fruits, and earth. It's not the most complex wine in the lineup, but it's balanced, medium-bodied, rounded, and undeniably charming.
Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London and at the château, the 2006 Château Barde Haut has a soft, raspberry preserve and crushed strawberry-scented bouquet with just a dab of marmalade. The palate is fully matured after ten years with slightly dry tannin on the entry, quite masculine in style and needing more flesh and depth to come through on the finish. I have tasted much better bottles of this in recent years; I recommend drinking bottles sooner rather than later. Tasted March 2016.
