Punteggio 93/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2004

Deep, saturated red. Hints of earth, iodine, peat and chocolate on the nose. Complex, layered and sweet, with noteworthy flesh and density. Very minerally and very long, finishing with terrific grip. I tasted this next to the example from Drouhin: that wine was silkier and more floral, while this was less obviously sweet and considerably more backward. Both are superb.

Medium to dark ruby-colored and exhibiting a nose of candied orange rinds as well as sweet blackberries, the 2001 Musigny is a long, lush wine. This medium-bodied offering broadens on the palate to reveal an enticing panoply of spiced red fruits. Projected maturity: now-2012. Importer: Kobrand, Inc., New York, NY; tel. (212) 490-9300

Saturated, deep red. Perfumed, pure aromas of raspberry and crushed stone. Dense, sweet, penetrating and pure, with the strong mineral and floral components following through in the mouth. Very harmonious, consistent wine, finishing with perfectly distributed, buffered tannins and building length. Shows little sign of the 100% new oak.
