The 1990 Musigny Grand Cru is predictable insofar as it translates the growing season, perhaps to the extent of depriving it of the terroir expression of the 1985 or 1995. It has a decadent bouquet of blackberry, raspberry coulis and a touch of star anise, all precocious and almost extroverted. The palate is similarly rounded in texture, displaying impressive concentration, plenty of glycerin and moderate acidity. If you like opulent Musigny, then this is where to come (with a big fat wallet). This is a pleasure-giving wine for sure, though it does not have the personality or nuance of the finest vintages. On this showing, the Bonnes-Mares handled the warmth of the growing season better in this year. Tasted in November 2018 at the Roumier Musigny dinner at Épure in Hong Kong.
