2012 Malescasse

The 2012 Malescasse is a fleshy, rustic Haut-Médoc to drink now and over the next few years. Dark red cherry, plum, licorice, violet and lavender add complexity. Slightly angular contours remain, but the Malescasse is certainly not lacking in personality. The 2012 is 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Frédéric Massie and Hannah Fiegenschuh are the consulting winemakers.

Subtle undertones of herbs are present in this medium-bodied, slightly hollow, undernourished cru bourgeois. It is medium-bodied and has a healthy dark color, but it lacks depth on the palate. Drink up.

Really impressive fruit definition and great concentration. Well handled oak – sweet but not intrusive, and full of delicious chocolate, mnit and cassis flavour. A real standout – well done to them. (RH)
