Punteggio 16.5/20 · Da bere 1945-2000, Jancis Robinson MW, Jan 2019

From Robert Vifian's cave. He bought it in 1979 at an auction near Tan Dinh. Nearly a good vintage until it rained during harvest. Dark blackish ruby – very intense colour. Very ‘old wine’ nose. Edge of butteriness and there is still some fruit and then it’s pretty tart on the end. It’s alive, though it doesn’t give as much pleasure as the younger wines. Drying end. (JR)

Punteggio 83/100 · Da bere 2016, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2016

The 1924 Chateau Margaux is actually a vintage that I have tasted once before. This bottle had such turbidity that I wavered whether to actually take a sip. Mothballs, mahogany antique bureau and there is something sweet, like burnt molasses, even a touch of cooked meat. Surprisingly the palate was still not just drinkable, but enjoyable. For certain, it is long past its best, but there is a sweet and mellow core, a sucrosity that soon makes you forget the murkiness. Any bottles should be consumed in the near future and it is probably for curiosity only now, but don't let its appearance dissuade you from taking a sip. Tasted May 2016.

Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 1950-1990, Jancis Robinson MW, Aug 2016

Ruby and particularly star bright. Firm, tart with some sweetness but no great body. Spindly in fact. Interesting hints of liquorice but a remnant rather than a current pleasure. The score is for how it must have been in its prime. (JR)

Recorked 1984 according to the cork. Pale ruby and very delicate on the nose. Wonderfully sweet perfume, though pretty tart on the palate now. Best to concentrate on the scent. Here is a wine of the old school waving a fond farewell. (JR)
