The 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon Fay Vineyard reveals the gorgeously perfumed, complex bouquet that this winery routinely obtains. This wine possesses more structure and firmer tannin than the outstanding 1990 Fay Vineyard Cabernet, but no less richness. There is super fruit, ripeness, medium to full body, and plenty of intensity, but unlike most of this producer's red wines, it needs 1-2 more years of cellaring. It should drink well for 15+ years. This winery enjoys a much deserved fine reputation for its bevy of complex, elegant, authoritatively flavorful red wines, particularly the Fay Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and the Cask 23 Proprietary Red Wine, the latter one of California's benchmark wines. The white wine program has been less impressive, although progress is evident with each new vintage. Tel. (707) 944-2020; Fax (707) 257-7501.

Warren Winiarski founded Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in 1970 when he purchased the Stag’s Leap Vineyard in Napa’s Stags Leap District. The 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon – only the second vintage – won the famous 1976 Judgement of Paris blind tasting, rocketing the estate to fame.
